Military services

All military conscripts who arrive abroad with intention to stay there for longer than one year, are required to report their stay to the nearest diplomatic mission of the Republic of Serbia within 30 days of arrival in order to be listed into military service register.

The local consulate may, by means of special decision, and on a plea by a conscript, and evaluating all mentioned circumstances that are submitted for the extension of the stay abroad, grant such extension but no longer than October 31st of the calendar year in which the conscript turns 27 years of age.

Military conscripts, over the age of 27, are not required to provide evidence of completion of military service when applying for a passport. However, if they are in possession of such document, it should be submitted with the passport application in order to speed up the process.

Military conscript over the age of 27 can apply for the permit of temporary or permanent stay abroad in a form of a plea addressed to the General Staff of the Army the Republic of Serbia and through the local consulate. All submitted documentation supporting the claims of the conscripts must be translated into Serbian language and notarized by a layer or notary public.

Military conscripts who apply for a temporary stay abroad after 27 years of age must specify how long they need the extension for, providing it is not beyond their 35th birthday.

The application must contain the following information:

Surname / father's name/ given name

Personal identification number

Date of birth

Residence in the Republic of Serbia / place and municipality/

Date of listing into military service register.

All previous decisions granting extensions of temporary stay abroad

Money order or certified cheque payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia

Address of residence abroad, telephone number, fax, e-mail and etc.

The consular fees can be paid by cash, money order or certified cheque payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia.

A prepaid self addressed envelope for return by registered mail must also be enclosed.

 

Documents required in support of application for deferral of military service

1. Males between ages of 18 and 27, who have not already completed military service, and are residing abroad, attending school, University, professional training etc, are required to submit the following documents:

Completed Questionnaire / MS Word or PDF format / and Application / MSWord or PDF format/ for military conscripts

Certificate from educational institution confirming the student's full time attendance and its translation into Serbian

Certified photocopy of the passport of the Republic of Serbia - pages 1 and 2

All existing previous decisions granting extensions of temporary stay.

Money order or certified cheque payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the amount of 40.00 CAD

A prepaid self addressed envelope for return by registered mail

2. Males between 18 and 27 years of age, holding dual citizenship, are required to submit the following documents:

Completed Questionnaire / MS Word or PDF format / and Application / MSWord or PDF Format/ for military conscripts

Certified copy of passport of the Republic of Serbia - pages 1 and 2

Certified copy of Canadian passport / pages containing personal information with picture / or Canadian Citizenship Certificate

All existing previous declarations granting extensions of temporary stay abroad

Money order or certified cheque payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the amount of 40.00 CAD

A prepaid self addressed envelope for return by registered mail

 

Military conscripts over 27 years of age, along with the above mentioned documents, are required to submit the following:

Plea to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia explaining the reasons for requesting a temporary or permanent stay abroad

Application /MS Word or PDF format / to be submitted trough the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia

Documents providing proof of residence (proof of loans, permanent employment, marriage certificate, child birth certificate, school attendance) together with the translation of mentioned documents into Serbian language

Money order or certified cheque payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the amount of $ 40.00 CAD

3. Males age 27 (or turning 27 in the current calendar year) or older, who have not already completed military service, are required to submit the following documents:

Completed questionnaire / MS Word or PDF format / and application / MSWord or PDF format/ for military conscripts

Certified copy of passport of the Republic of Serbia - pages 1 and 2

Plea to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia specifying the duration for which the extension of temporary stay is requested

Application /MS Word or PDF format/ to be submitted trough the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia

Short Curriculum Vitae

Certificate from school confirming full time attendance and its translation into the Serbian language

Documents providing proof of residence (proof of loans, permanent employment, marriage, birth of children, school attendance) together with the translation of mentioned documents into the Serbian language.

All existing previous decisions granting extensions of temporary stay abroad

Money order or certified cheque payable to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the amount of 40.00 CAD

Military service for individuals with dual Citizenship - Enrolment into reserve force:

 

The conscripts with dual citizenship / citizenship of the Republic of Serbia and another foreign citizenship/ and are permanently residing abroad, have an option to do military service at their own request. The request will be granted by the General Staff of the Army of the Republic of Serbia. The General Staff can also decide to register the conscript as a member of the reserve force based on the following requirements:

That he is over 27 years of age, permanently residing abroad and that he successfully passed medical examinations required by Military Recruitment Commission.

Requirements:

Military conscript must be over age of 27, must have dual citizenship, / notarized copy of the first page of the foreign passport/, must give a statement, signed and certified by the nearest diplomatic mission of the Republic of Serbia, that he refuses to do military service in the Republic of Serbia, and must submit an application to be registered as a member of reserve force.
